Saint Scholastica

admin on September 28th, 2008

Patron saint of storms, Saint Scholastica is the sister of Benedict and the first Benediction nun.  Almost all that is known of her comes from St. Gregory’s Great Dialogues.  She founded a nunnery in Plombariola.  Saint Scholastica and Benedict would meet once a year and on the last visit, Scholastica asked her brother to stay longer so they talk all night about the joys of heaven.  Benedit could not and Scholastica died three days later.

Upon Benedict’s death four year’s later in 547, he was buried in the same grave with Scholastica.

Saint Scholastica is often symbolizes by a white dove on a blue field with her feast day celebrated on February 10th.
